“Roll With Me” – Bantu & Jonas Blue ft. Shungudzo & ZieZie

What do you do with a song that’s not entirely awful, but has that familiar “boom, bap bap” Reggaeton beat we’ve heard so much of lately? IDK. Maybe you listen to it once and move on? It’s fun but we still don’t want to roll with her, she’s probably just going to the liquor store to buy a blunt wrap anyway. We’ll be here when you get back. #issaight

“NEW ORLEANS” – BROCKHAMPTON

It’s been awhile since there was a good rap collective. And it may be a while still! But this is pretty good. At least it’s not about how much stuff they own. In fact, the whole album is soaring. Perfect to listen to while you’re working out. The slang is thick and ever-evolving! If you understand what this song is about without Googling the lyrics, please send a self-addressed stamped envelope to Issabop headquarters to become a writer! #issabop

“Two Punks In Love” – bülow

This is a cute rising song. We feel like we’re an angsty, in love 8th grader. The kind of track that plays over the last scene of the Riverdale mid-season finale.. and it sounds good at the time, but it’s only because you’re looking at Archie, Betty and Veronica going through it in slow motion. Is it a bop, no? Does it make our heart full? Yes. #issaight

“It Kinda Hurts” – Skyler Stonestreet

Another cute lovesick song. This one from the point of view of the singer, watching her ex-boyfriend play a concert with love songs written about someone else. Lyrically interesting, yet lacks captivation. Song feels like a dusty snow globe we used to own. It fits nicely into a chillout playlist, but it doesn’t stand out. #issaight

“Girl” – Jess Kent

Kind of an update of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl,” and just as good. Maybe better. Living for great pop like this. This is the most self-aware song we’ve heard in a long time. Finally an artist to reflect on how other artists reflect on themselves. We feel like we’ve heard enough of whatever else there is. Jess Kent, thank you for telling it like it is! You ARE an object, and we’re really sorry about that. We love your story. #issabop

“Better” – Khalid

Khalid is like the male Sia, you don’t understand what the hell he’s saying, but it sounds pretty good! It’s funny how sad he sounds singing “nothing is better than this,” but it works because of his commitment. Cheer up, Khalid, it doesn’t get better! (Wait, we mean it gets better?) Whatevs. #issaight

“Thick and Thin” – LANY

Screenshot 2018-09-14 18.07.47

“Thick and Thin” tries to go a little bit further than we would like and ends up falling short. It’s soft, it’s party, it’s full of heartache… we just want to hear better from LANY soon. Side note: This would be a good theme for a reality show about real estate agents. Like, one guy’s kind of chubby and trying to deal with his weight issues, while his best friend is a vain, skinny bitch! Together, they’re Thick and Thin! #issaflop

“My Boy” – Wale ft. J. Cole

J. Cole and Wale bring heat! Been hyped on these rappers for a long time and they don’t disappoint. Although this is neither of their best work, we’re stoked to hear them together. The flow is on point, the lyrics are dynamite and we think we can play this song a few more times today. #issabop
